Corruption in the health sector in Tanzania has been a stumbling block upon accessing services, something that has culminated loss of lives, especially people with meager income.

In a move towards finding the lasting solution on the vice which has been increasing at alarming rate, Tanzania Youth Vision Association (TYVA) launched anti-graft awareness community campaign in September10, this year in all secondary schools of Dar es Salaam region, aimed at creating awareness and sensitization.

The campaign, sponsored by the World Bank (WB) through the British Council, is part of Anti Corruption Journalism for Health (ACJH) project which kicked off in the mid of August this year, to fight and combat corruption in the health sector.

The campaign is colored by various testimonies from different students who adduced before the public the scenarios in which they were forced by officials from the health sector to give bribes in exchange of the service. It was held at Azania Secondary School in Dar es Salaam.

“I once bribed a doctor when I was undergoing medical examination to fill in the form for joining Azania Secondary school so that I could ease the exercise when I realized that it was very hard to be examined without bribing the doctor on duty’’, said Mbwana Msangula.

Msangula says that a doctor at Amana hospital in Ilala district solicited 3,000/- from him. He had no other alternative than to give him, simply because he was in a great need to proceed with his studies.

According to ACJH Project Manager Mr Fredrick Fussi this campaign dubbed ‘Ripoti Rushwa Community Campaign’’ started with secondary schools in Dar es Salaam and Cost regions, after which it would involve the community at large in both regions
