BALOZI MAHIGA WA UN AKATALIWA NA WASOMALI.

Somali lawmakers yesterday slammed the United Nations Ambassador to Somalia, Augustine Mahiga, for supporting Somaliland's bid for independence, during a press conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

Somali MP Awad Ahmed Hasharo, who also serves as the chairman of the parliament’s information committee, told the reporters that they condemned Mahiga and his plans to undermine the unity of Somalia,“We call on the United Nations to change the position of representative of United Nations to Somalia. We call on the Somali people to know what has he done in Somalia and what he wants to be do. We are against anyone who interferes with Somalia's political affairs directly or indirectly," said the chairman.

Ambassador Augustine P Mahiga-UN Special Representative to Somalia.
He also has accused the speaker of the Somali Parliament Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan of breaking Somalia's national constitutional code,“The speaker is not sincere about the general interest of the Somali nation and he is against government officials and Somali lawmakers. He is only interested in himself,” the chairman added.

MP Molid Macane Mahamoud told Somalia Report that Mr. Mahiga has routinely created unnecessary drama and misunderstanding amongst Somali officials,“We call on him to stop his actions to separate the Somali people. He is not a Somali. We are against both Sharif Aden and Mahiga. More than 23 lawmakers in Kenya and more than 220 lawmakers inside Somalia do not support these men. Mr. Mahiga failed to solve the Somali crises, so his time is over,” said the MP.

In a statement to Somalia Report, UN Political Office for Somalia  (UNPOS) spokes man Nick Birnback denied the allegations that Mr. Mahiga has spoken in favor of Somaliland Independence, and reiterated UNPOS support for the territorial integrity of Somalia.
